Summary

This hands-on workshop seeks to relate the theoretical knowledge of design and construction professionals to practical installation considerations regarding air barriers—in particular, peel-n-stick and fluid-applied methodologies. Through this workshop participants will gain practical knowledge of basic details for continuity of air barrier systems, learn to avoid pitfalls with air barriers, and identify and prioritize design considerations when incorporating an air barrier system into the building enclosure. Participants will apply air barrier materials to wall mockups, inspect them for proper technique, and test for air tightness. The workshop is based on the hands-on component of the ABAA (Air Barrier Association of America) Installer Certification Course. It will be conducted by Laverne Dalgleish, Executive Director of ABAA, and Peter Spafford, Quality Assurance Program Manager of ABAA.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Learning Objectives

  • Install peel-n-sack and fluid-applied air barriers to effectively control air leakage.
  • Become familiar with typical design and installation conditions.
  • Understand practical consequences of code requirements.
  • Gain practical experience in meeting performance requirements of air barrier materials, assemblies, and systems.
