SummaryBuilding Information Modeling (BIM) is transforming how we design, construct, and operate buildings. To kick off the 2014 CSI Products Fair, BEC Charleston and the Charleston Chapter of CSI present Jared Banks, AIA—a Seattle-based architect, writer, lecturer, and consultant to Graphisoft—who will guide us through several key BIM topics. Afterwards, plan to stick around for the product exhibits, refreshments, and an opportunity for some informal Q&A with Mr. Banks. Learning Objectives
BiographyJared Banks, AIA, is a Seattle-based writer, lecturer, and registered architect. He is a consultant to Graphisoft, the publisher of ArchiCAD, on BIM implementation, training, and product development. He has written articles for Architect Magazine, DesignIntelligence, and CLOG, as well as ArchDaily, Graphisoft North America's BIM Engine, and the AIA CRAN Chronicle. His blog, Shoegnome, focuses on the struggles of being an architect in the 21st century and how BIM and other technologies are affecting the industry. You can follow him on Twitter at @shoegnome. Jared's work focuses on the design and communication potential found at the intersection of innovative technology and architectural practice. He has broad-based experience in the practical capabilities of BIM work processes. His expertise includes the development of more efficient work flows, collaboration, and teamwork. Jared is well-versed in how BIM technology can assist both the design and construction of buildings, guided by his knowledge that the right tools can enhance understanding of both the detailing and phenomenological experience of a design prior to construction. Jared is a graduate of Rice University. Until 2012, when he left to pursue his own practice, Jared spent four and a half years working for SALA Architects, an award-winning firm in Minnesota. His experience there covered all phases of architectural practice and BIM management on projects ranging from $200,000 to over $2,000,000, including new construction and renovation/restoration. He has been active in the AIA, as an officer with St. Paul Board of Directors and as an Assistant Editor for the CRAN Chronicle at the national level. |
