Rob Bolus

Robert B. Bolus is the owner and operator of Coastal Training Consultants & Inspectors in Charleston, SC. He has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Mr. Bolus holds licenses in the State of South Carolina in residential and commercial construction, home inspection and insurance adjusting. A former building inspector, he maintains certification in all areas of building inspection through the International Codes Council (ICC). He is a certified Home Energy Rater (HERS) and is authorized as an EarthCraft House ™ Technical Advisor, a LEED™ for Homes Green Rater and a Verifier under NAHB’s National Green Building Program. Additionally, he has received Level I Certification as an Infrared Thermographer through the Infraspection Institute and holds multiple certifications through the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

 

Summary

The presentation will introduce attendees to some of the tools used for building performance diagnostic testing. These include the blower door, duct blaster, pressure pan, combustion analyzer, balometer, anemometer, exhaust hood and infrared camera. The presentation will use video and hands-on demonstrations to familiarize attendees with these instruments and how they are used in the field to gather information on building tightness, mechanical and duct system performance and combustion safety in order to develop a work scope for energy improvements.
